    The time I bought myself a Kindle and immediately lost it.

    I am or used to be an avid reader, I used to read about 100 books a year and always wanted a Kindle so that I could bring all my books with me instead of trying to bring several physical books.

    Since I found out about ebooks I would read on my phone usually with the Kindle app or an E-reader app like Moon+Reader but I wanted an actual e-reader because it was better for your eyes and I would get terrible eye strains reading on my phone for hours.

    It was actually a gift request I had for years and my husband bought me a really cheap off brand e-reader that couldn’t even load my books or Kindle app. He tried his best but a Prestigio is not a Kindle. This Prestigio would frequently freeze or not load and I would get so frustrated with it, when buying an E-reader that’s inexpensive go for the inexpensive not cheap because cheap is always lost money even if it was just 40€.

    So after years and years of wanting a Kindle in June 2021 I finally bought one when it was on sale!

    I was so happy, a dream that finally came through, I immediately side loaded my books from Google play and other epubs I had gotten over the years and synced my Kindle library, over 100 books and not even a dent in the memory!

    But my happiness was not to be…

    My daughter was one at the time and I foolishly left the Kindle on the bed side table where she could reach it. I had only received the Kindle two days before this post.

    I looked everywhere for the Kindle, in the dirty clothes hamper, behind the bed side table, under the bed, under her crib, I did not look in the bag of dirty diapers before I threw it away and after the fact I was so scared she had put it in there.

    Almost a year went by and I had given up hope that I would ever find the Kindle, I was trying to figure out if I should just buy a new one but I’d have to wait for it to go on sale again and I had no idea when that would be. I tried to go back to reading on my phone but it just wasn’t the same.

    And then it happened.

    When they say you find something when you least expect it they are not lying, I was going through some of my daughter’s old clothes to see what to get rid off and there my Kindle was in the bag, I don’t even remember this bag of clothes being in the bedroom where she could reach.

    Needless to say I don’t leave my Kindle where she can reach, most of the time, sometimes I forget but I always remember at the least minute because it takes one time for your Kindle to be abducted and hidden.

    Ma routine avec L’Oréal Professionnel Curl Expression

    J’ai utilisé cette routine pendant deux semaines et je peux maintenant donner mon avis.

    Le shampoing me plaît beaucoup, c’est plutôt une consistance épaisse qui est un peu collante. Il mousse vraiment bien avec juste un peu de produit l’odeur est un peu étrange mais pas trop forte ou désagréable.

    Je donne à ce shampooing 4,5 sur 5 étoiles.

    Le masque est correct, il a une consistance légère qui ne me donne pas vraiment le glissement que j’aime quand je démêle mes cheveux.

    L’après-shampoing sans rinçage n’a pas vraiment d’effet sur moi et il ne fonctionne pas bien avec mon gel, je n’ai donc pas pu obtenir le look défini que j’aime. Il s’agit d’une crème très légère qui n’offre aucune tenue à ma coiffure, si bien que le lendemain, mes cheveux étaient dans un état afro.

    Je donne à cet après-shampoing sans rinçage 2 étoiles sur 5.

    Le spray raviveur de boucles est absolument inutile pour moi, il ne semble rien faire d’autre que d’encourager mes cheveux à devenir plus crépus. Pour un lavage et un départ, je ne l’utiliserais absolument pas, mais pour une utilisation avant de mettre des tresses ou de tordre mes cheveux, je peux voir une utilité.

    Je donne à ce spray raviveur de boucles 2,5 sur 5 étoiles.

    Influenster – Comment utiliser ce site

    *Il s’agit d’un article mis à jour. Je l’ai écrit à l’origine le 21 mai 2022, lorsque le processus d’inscription au site Web était différent et que le type de campagnes était beaucoup plus restreint. Comme il y a eu beaucoup de mises à jour de l’application, j’ai pensé qu’il valait mieux mettre à jour ce billet pour que personne ne soit perdu en le lisant.*

    J’ai déjà écrit un peu sur le fonctionnement du site dans un précédent billet sur ma dernière Voxbox que vous pouvez lire ici : New Hydralin Voxbox

    Le nombre de personnes qui se sont inscrites sur le bureau ou ont téléchargé l’application et qui sont toujours perdues est trop important et il ne devrait pas en être ainsi. Je vais vous expliquer étape par étape comment vous inscrire et utiliser l’application car le site sur le bureau n’est pas aussi utilisé.

    S’inscrire

    Actuellement, la seule façon de s’inscrire à Influenster est de télécharger l’application et de remplir le formulaire d’inscription. Auparavant, il était possible de s’inscrire via le site web, mais cette possibilité a été dépréciée et tout se fait désormais via l’application.

    Vous avez deux possibilités pour vous inscrire : vous pouvez vous rendre sur le site web et cliquer sur le lien en haut de la page qui indique “S’inscrire”, ou vous pouvez télécharger l’app et suivre les instructions.

    Une fois que vous vous êtes inscrit, veillez à remplir complètement votre profil d’évaluateur. Cela permet à Influenster de faire correspondre votre profil aux critères que les marques leur envoient pour choisir les évaluateurs des Voxbox.

    Vous trouverez votre profil d’évaluateur dans vos paramètres. Cliquez sur À propos de moi et il devrait s’y trouver. Malheureusement, tous les paramètres ou instructions ne sont pas en français, vous pourriez voir beaucoup d’anglais, je comprends à quel point cela peut être frustrant, surtout depuis qu’ils envoient Voxbox ici en France depuis 2018.

    Une fois que vous avez rempli votre profil d’évaluateur, vous pouvez commencer à évaluer les produits que vous utilisez. C’est l’objectif principal d’Influenster, un site d’évaluation qui récompense parfois ses membres avec une Voxbox spéciale.


    Actuellement, il existe trois types de campagnes sur l’application, la Voxbox originale où vous devez répondre à une enquête pour voir si vous correspondez aux critères définis par les marques, tels que le niveau de revenu, l’âge et l’endroit où vous vivez. Le deuxième type de Voxbox est appelé Voxbox préqualifiée, vous n’avez pas à répondre à une enquête mais il n’y a qu’un nombre limité de produits. Vous recevrez un e-mail et une notification dans l’application pour vous informer que des produits sont disponibles et si vous êtes assez rapide, vous pouvez réclamer un ou plusieurs produits et la marque vous expédiera le produit. Le troisième type de campagne n’est pas une Voxbox, il s’agit plutôt de campagnes de Cashback où vous recevez une invitation à réclamer un produit, vous vous rendez dans un magasin ou visitez un site web et achetez le produit, vous téléchargez votre reçu et vous recevrez votre argent. Je tiens à souligner que toutes ces campagnes sont basées sur les informations que vous fournissez dans l’application à propos de vous et de vos centres d’intérêt, donc si vous ne recevez aucune de ces campagnes mais qu’un ami en reçoit une, cela ne signifie pas que quelque chose ne va pas avec votre compte, votre profil ne correspond pas à ce que les marques recherchent.

    Si vous avez de la chance et que vous correspondez aux critères fixés par une marque, vous recevrez une enquête vous demandant si vous souhaitez recevoir un produit à évaluer et si vous êtes à l’aise pour poster sur des médias sociaux tels qu’Instagram ou Facebook.

    N’oubliez pas que cette enquête est une présélection !

    Vous n’êtes pas assuré d’être choisi même après avoir rempli l’enquête.

    J’ai récemment eu le plaisir de recevoir ma 5e et 6e Voxbox d’Influenster. Cette fois-ci, j’ai eu la chance de passer en revue des produits de Hydralin.

    Je ne m’y attendais même pas après ma terrible expérience de l’année dernière avec la Sun Voxbox. Mais j’ai été surprise de recevoir deux boîtes complètement à l’improviste, il n’y avait pas de campagne sur mon tableau de bord et je n’ai reçu l’email “You’re In” que presque une semaine plus tard. C’était une surprise très agréable et je l’apprécie vraiment.

    C’est en fait la première fois que j’entends parler de cette marque et que je l’essaie.

    Dans mes voxbox, j’ai reçu :

    Hydralin Sécheresse

    Pour lutter contre la sécheresse intime au quotidien et Hydrate et lubrifie durablement la zone intime.

    • Crème lavante Sécheresse

    Je préfère généralement que les produits que j’utilise autour de ma zone intime ne soient pas parfumés, mais le léger parfum de ce produit me convient. Ce nettoyant est très crémeux et hydratant et j’ai pu l’utiliser tous les jours sans aucun effet négatif. Je le recommande si vous cherchez un moyen sûr et naturel de laver votre zone intime sans craindre de perturber son équilibre délicat.

    • Gel Lubrifiant

    C’est le deuxième gel lubrifiant que j’utilise et celui-ci ressemble plus à un liquide qu’à un gel. Il a une sensation naturelle et aide à éviter les démangeaisons et la sécheresse. J’aime le fait qu’il ne soit pas parfumé et qu’il ne soit pas du tout perceptible. Je le recommanderais à quelqu’un qui cherche un moyen facile de lubrifier avant les moments intimes.

    Nettoie en douceur et préserve l’équilibre de votre flore intime cette gamme est adaptée aux petites filles.

    • Gel lavant Mademoiselle

    Ce produit est adapté aux jeunes filles, la texture est légère et l’odeur est acceptable pour un produit intime. Ma fille étant trop jeune pour ce produit, je l’ai offert à ma nièce. Je le recommande vivement si vous avez une jeune fille dans votre entourage à la recherche d’une toilette intime sûre et efficace.

    • Mousse lavant Fillette

    Cette mousse lavante est adaptée aux filles dès l’âge de 2 ans. Je l’utilise avec ma fille et je l’aime beaucoup, la pompe est très pratique et hygiénique, nous n’utilisons qu’une seule pression pour laver sa zone intime. Elle mousse très bien et son parfum est léger et agréable. Il aide à lutter contre les irritations et respecte la zone intime.

    • Gel lavant Quotidien

    Ce gel lavant contient de l’extrait de lotus qui aide à maintenir l’équilibre de votre zone intime. C’est un produit que vous pouvez utiliser tous les jours. Son parfum est léger, il mousse très bien et se rince facilement. Il mousse très bien et se rince facilement. L’utilisation de ce gel nettoyant aide à soulager les irritations et est sans danger pour les jeunes filles.

    Pour ma 5e et 6e Voxbox, je suis très satisfaite.

    Tout ce que vous avez à faire est d’évaluer des produits que vous utilisez déjà, si vous correspondez aux critères établis par les marques, vous recevrez une enquête vous demandant si vous êtes intéressé à recevoir un produit, s’il vous plaît noter que cette enquête est juste pour voir si vous êtes un bon ajustement, vous pourriez ne rien recevoir de cette enquête, mais si vous le faites, vous recevrez un paquet avec le produit et une campagne apparaîtra sur votre profil comme dans l’image ci-dessous. Récemment, les e-mails vous indiquant que vous recevez le produit arrivent beaucoup plus tard, il se peut donc que vous ayez déjà reçu et testé le produit avant de recevoir cet e-mail. D’autres fois, vous ne recevez jamais d’e-mail ou de campagne. J’espère que ces informations ont été utiles.

    New Expert Nutri-frizz by Franck Provost

    That high-quality scent that Professional hair care products have, what is that?

    It has been well over six years since I’ve been to a hair salon but as soon as I used these products I was reminded of sitting in that chair while someone else ran their hands through my hair, massaging my scalp and taking good care of my tresses.

    That’s not to say that washing my hair on my own can replace going to a hair stylist and I do plan on visiting a salon once I find a good curl specialist but that’s not so easy to find where I live. I want a dry cut since I never wear my hair straight and live for wash and go. I absolutely refuse to have my hair straightened and then cut because I don’t want my hair straightened. I really don’t care how professional and good a stylist is, if they can’t cut curly hair in its natural state they can’t be that good, can they?

    I digress, the Expert Nutri-Frizz shampoo does contain Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate which I know a lot of people lose their minds over but I don’t mind it and tend to look for shampoos that do contain it.

    On Inci Beauty, this shampoo has a very poor rating of 0/20 which I think is pretty harsh but Inci isn’t known for giving good grades to good products. I find the “natural” products they give really good grades to are usually the ones that end up messing up my hair or do absolutely nothing at all.

    For me personally the shampoo works really well, it lathers and cleanses the hair without stripping it while leaving my strands moisturized.

    The Expert Nutri-Frizz mask was surprising, I was not expecting to like it that much, just like the shampoo the mask has that salon-quality scent, it is not very thick nor is it light, I’d say it’s of medium consistency which my hair seems to like. It provided enough slip that I was able to detangle my hair with ease, once I washed it out my hair was not left feeling parched at all, it was still highly moisturized and ready to be set with my mousse and gel. The mask scored a little better on Inci but only a teeny tiny bit, it got a 5.1/20.

  • New Ancestry DNA update plus SideView

    I literally just received my Ancestry results and already they have been updated. If you hadn’t read my post talking about my Ancestry DNA results you can find them here My Ancestry DNA Results!

    Now let’s get into my new percentages and whatnot, but first what is Ancestry SideView?

    Ancestry SideView is simply Ancestry trying to tell you what DNA you inherited and which parent it came from, contrary to what people may have you think it is not the first of its kind, 23andme has done something for quite a while, you can find it in you Parental Inheritance Report and I’ve shared mine in a post before which you can read here Phasing My 23andme With My Father. As far as I can see the only difference is that with SideView you don’t need any parents to test but to me, it seems that might lead to some inaccuracies because I can’t fathom how they can pinpoint from which parent you inherited which gene if neither parent tested. I know this might seem to be biased because I have said again and again that I prefer 23andme to Ancestry but it just doesn’t seem logical to me, I am open to the fact that I might be wrong though.

    Here’s my Ancestry SideView, it really doesn’t seem all that accurate to me, just going off of what I got on 23andme where I am phased with my father, according to 23andme I inherited no French from my mother but Ancestry says I inherited 2%. Someone must be wrong and I’m leaning towards Ancestry being wrong just because my father is there to compare my results with.

    Now here’s my 23andme Parental Inheritance Report. The number here makes perfect sense when compared to my paper trail, I don’t really see how Ancestry arrived at the percentages they did.

    Before I forget here’s my update results from Ancestry. A bit of a shakeup, Nigeria decreased while Benin & Togo increased, Spain is completely gone or they changed it to Basque, Mali decreased, Ivory Coast & Ghane is increased, France increased, England & Northwestern Europe has decreased, I gained Senegal and most of the other changes are minor.

    Here are my results in comparison to my brother’s results, his France is still pretty tiny but it might just boil down to him not inheriting those specific genes.

    Ancestry has a lot of work to do if it wants to impress me, maybe including a chromosome browser or showing me how my DNA relatives are related to each other? 23andme has truly spoiled other tests for me.

  • Family Hidden in Plain View

    Have I just found Christina Chamberlain’s mother?

    That is the question that I am currently asking myself, have I in fact discovered the mother and sibling of Christina Chamberlain right there in a Census document that I have looked at several times before?

    The document in question is the 1870 Danish West Indies Census, here you can see Christina with Ancilla living next to her “father” Ludwick Chamberlain, and in the house above is Catherine “Caty” Simmons. I’ve seen the name Simmons before, in the trees of people who seem to have the same relatives as I do but they haven’t tested or maybe they have and we don’t match? Whatever it is I never ran across them in my brother’s DNA relatives and I have not seen them in mine.

    This record alone isn’t enough to say Hey! That’s her Mama, it was the other records that I found that made this even more compelling, here is Caty and Christina in the 1860 Danish West Indies Census, it lists Christina as her daughter.

    And here in the 1857 Census is Caty with Judy Powlis also known as Judith her other daughter and Judy’s son Carl.

    In the 1850 Census, I found Catherine, Judith, and Christina in the same place. I have not identified the other people yet, possible relatives? Maybe.

  • My Ancestry DNA Results!

    On March 5 I finally sent in my Ancestry DNA kit and anxiously waited on the results. So many things went through my head, but my biggest concern was “what if it failed?”.

    A valid concern since my 23andme test failed the first time, my fears were unfounded this time as my DNA Results were finalized on the 30th.

    It was weird looking at it because I was so used to my 23andme results and looking at my brother’s ancestry results, my own made zero sense to me.

    As a refresher here are my 23andme Results. After going through this process I still prefer 23andme over Ancestry. The only thing Ancestry really has going for it is the family tree attached to it but I’ve gone through all of this before in my post The Reasons why I prefer 23andme over Ancestry DNA.

    It’s really interesting watching my results compared to my brother, the differences in the genes we inherited are not only fascinating but it has helped me to verify some lines in our family tree. I have a few DNA relatives that he doesn’t have and they were the links I needed.

    The first line that I was able to confirm was my Grandfather’s paternal line, my brother had 0 matches from that line and it made me very curious, was it that nobody tested, or were there more nefarious reasons? Were we not actually LaPlace’s? I was going through the Thrulines and saw that I had two matches when I was expecting one. My brother is the match I was expecting and the second match was the Great-grandson of my Great-grandaunt, this person is my 3rd cousin and I have never heard of them, I knew that my Great-grandaunt had married into the Olive family and my Grandfather traveled to the US Virgin Islands to stay with her but my 3rd cousin’s last name I’ve never seen mentioned anywhere before.

    The second line I had confirmed was my Grandmother’s paternal line, same as above I was questioning why there were 0 relatives in my brother’s DNA relatives but it turns out he just didn’t inherit those genes while I did. I matched with the granddaughter of my Great-grandfather’s half-brother which makes her my Half 2nd cousin 1x removed, the DNA we share is also on the small side with only a 14% chance of being a Half 2nd cousin 1x removed but given the fickle nature of DNA inheritance, I’m just lucky to have even inherited any DNA from my 2nd Great-grandmother Sarah.

    Right now my focus is to see if hidden within my DNA relatives or even in my brother’s relatives there is a clue to who the father of our 2nd Great-grandmother Maud is. I am almost certain that it will be linked to the three relatives with the surname Hynes.

    When major American brands come out with a new line of products we don’t usually get them here in France until a couple of months later so when I was finally able to purchase the Creme of Nature Butter Blend & Flaxseed line of course I jumped at the chance!

    There are five products in the Butter Blend & Flaxseed line:

    1. Double Duty Detangle & Slip Shampoo
    2. Double Duty Detangle & Slip Rinse-Out Leave-In Conditioner
    3. Double Duty Stretch & Define Pudding
    4. Double Duty Curl Definer & Booster
    5. Double Duty Elongate & Define Jelly

    I bought everything except the Curl Definer & Booster, I don’t refresh my hair so I see no reason to buy a product designed for that. I believe in setting my hair and leaving it until the next wash day. When you think about it refreshing doesn’t really make sense, a little spritz of product is not going to make my curls pop again, to get my curls back I would need to actually wash my hair, saturate my whole head with water while washing it to remove product so I can reset my curls. Continuously spraying my hair with a product is just asking for buildup.

    At this moment, I have 7-day curls in my head that are in need of a re-fresh aka wash hour. The curls in the back of my head are still pretty defined while the top layer that I put into a puff has turned to frizz.

    Double Duty Detangle & Slip Shampoo

    What can I say about this shampoo? It’s non-stripping, moisturizing, and smells divine? Every product in this line smells delicious. I don’t even need a lot of product to get a good lather so I can see this bottle lasting for a while which I’m not upset about, I actually haven’t reached for the Argan oil shampoo since I got this one.

    I really like this shampoo and give it a 5 out of 5

    Double Duty Detangle & Slip Rinse-Out Leave-In Conditioner

    Ooh, chile…

    This conditioner is my holy grail, it provides enough slip to detangle my hair so easily, I much prefer it to the Argan oil one, it’s not as thick so I don’t have to beat the bottle to get the product out but it is still difficult to get out and I feel like the shape of the bottle doesn’t help with that either. My hair is also highly moisturized after rinsing it out, I have used it as both a rinse-out and leave-in. For me using it as a leave-in and pairing it with the pudding and jelly gave me an icky white residue that I had to rinse out of my hair with a quickness. When I use it as a rinse-out I feel like I get the best results. My curls are always bouncy and defined.

    This conditioner would have been 5 stars if the bottle shape wasn’t infuriating for me so it gets 4.5 stars out of 5.

    Double Duty Stretch & Define Pudding

    I have to be honest but I haven’t really used this product, I want to but I’m unsure how to actually use it. They said to pair it with the jelly for optimal results but I got white residue all over my hair. I’m really hesitant about trying it again and currently use the jelly with my mousse instead.

    This was my first time using a pudding and I’m not quite sure if this is how it always is but this product was hard in the container and became creamy when I rubbed it in my hands.

    For the fact that I don’t know what to do with it, I’ll give this 3 stars out of 5. It might change later!

    Double Duty Elongate & Define Jelly

    I really can’t choose between this jelly and the Argan oil cream activator because they both give me bomb curls but I have to say the jelly does give me more elongated curls, doing exactly what it promised!

    You don’t even need to use much of it and I like to pair this with a mousse for more umph.

    Depending on how much I use I end up with a slight crunchy feeling that loosens as the days go by but it’s not overly hard which will feel like literal cords.
