    Trying Aunt Jackie’s Hair Products For The First Time

    Recently I ran out of my conditioner, leave-in, gel, and deep conditioner and was looking around trying to decide what to buy. I could have gone back to Activilong or Garnier Ultra Doux but I felt like trying something new because I was unhappy with the amount of frizz I had and thought something else might give me better results.

    I saw Aunt Jackie’s products and decided to give them a try.

    I bought the Oh So Clean Moisturizing & Softening Shampoo, Knot On My Watch Instant Detangling Therapy, Don’t Shrink Flaxseed Elongating Curling Gel, Curl La La Defining Curl Custard, and In Control Moisturizing & Softening Conditioner.

    Oh So Clean Moisturizing & Softening Shampoo

    Touted as a soft shampoo that will moisturize and soften hair without stripping it, I was intrigued since I needed a new everyday shampoo, it is enriched with Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. It claims that your tresses will become super clean, soft, hydrated, and easier to comb.

    On first use I was convinced, it delivered on its promises, and an added bonus being that while I usually avoid products with Coconut oil in this one did not turn my hair dry and crunchy.

    I don’t wash my hair every day, I usually wash twice a week but I’ve been trying to stretch that to once a week, if you wash your hair every day I will venture to say that you probably won’t’ encounter any issues using this in your hair.

    I give it 4 stars.

    In Control Moisturizing & Softening Conditioner

    Tame, nourish, and deep condition frizzy, hard-to-manage, dehydrated, brittle natural curls, coils, and waves with natural extracts and proteins.

    Aunt Jackie’s Curls & Coils

    I’m sorry to say that this product failed to deliver any of its promises. Not only did my hair not feel soft and moisturized but I had to fight with a lot of frizz as well.

    I found that I had to add a milk mask to this conditioner to get decent results. Thank you Garnier Ultra Doux Cacao Milk Masque! I shouldn’t have to add another product to get the results that this one said it could deliver. I am definitely not buying this one again.

    Great detangling solution for all hair types and textures.

    Aunt Jackie’s Curls & Coils

    I’m not really sure why I bought this as I don’t really have knots or need much to detangle. It was not an enjoyable experience at all. It left my hair feeling very sticky and dry and I was not impressed. I will never buy this again because I get better detangling while using a basic conditioner.

    I give it 11/2 stars

    Curl La La Defining Curl Custard

    This product is aimed at taming frizz and making your hair easier to manage and let’s just say that I still had lots and lots of frizz after using this added to that fact that this was in addition to using the conditioner that was also supposed to tame and condition frizzy hair. Who’s frizzy hair was is supposed to tame? Because it surely did not tame mine!

    I made the mistake of using this and following it up with the gel and had a horrible time when the custard turned into pink crumbles in my freshly washed hair. I immediately washed my hair again with the shampoo but they were still there which meant I had to use my stripping shampoo. Definitely watch what products you use alongside it.

    I give it 3 stars.

    Don’t Shrink Flaxseed Elongating Curling Gel

    This is a pretty okay gel, it has a strong hold so on day two of my wash and go I still had some crunch in my hair. I don’t scrunch the crunch because I get terrible frizz that way. I still have frizz either way but I prefer to let it release on its own.

    By day three my curls were very pouffy, I had so much volume and I did have some defined curls in the back and the very front but those on the underside lost their hold and turned to frizz.

    I give it 31/2 stars

    After using these products for well over two weeks I can safely say that the majority of them are not for me. Not only did they not do what they were supposed to but they left my hair in a worse state and who needs that from hair products? I know I don’t. Like with everything your usage may vary so if you feel like giving it a try and seeing if you have different results Aunt Jackie’s is very affordable. I bought most of the products from Superbeaute with the exception of In Control which was Out of Stock at the time.

    Finally, I give the whole lot 3 stars because the shampoo and the gel were not too bad and if I had no other options I would use them without a second thought. The others I will never use again after I finish these.

  • The Reasons why I prefer 23andme over Ancestry DNA

    So many times I’ve been asked if I prefer Ancestry or 23andme and which one would be the best to buy. In answer to the first, personally, I prefer 23andme. In answer to the second, it depends.

    Ancestry is always touted as being the best but for who?

    People with ancestry that is mainly from the United States. If you have ancestry from the Caribbean or Europe you might have more matches with 23andme, MyHeritage, Geneanet, or any of the other lesser-known DNA sites.

    To show you what I mean I’m going to show you my brother’s DNA map from Ancestry.

    *Not all Relatives opt into sharing their location so there could be some from the locations I’m talking about.

    As you can no doubt see there is 1 DNA relative from Canada, 17 from the Caribbean, and 3 from the UK. All our ancestry is from the Caribbean: US Virgin Islands, Dominica, and Saint-Barthélemy. We should have way more family in the Caribbean, the UK, and France but those testers are just not here at Ancestry. I can find some who moved from those areas to the United States but the ones who never moved are unaccounted for and quite frankly they are the ones that can probably help me break my brick walls.

    As a comparison, I’m going to show you my father and my 23andme DNA maps, what I love about 23andme’s map is that it tells you exactly how many relatives did opt into sharing their locations.

    First, we’ll look at my map.

    Do you see the difference already? 14 DNA relatives in Canada, 40 in the Caribbean, 1 in Mexico, 1 in Central America, 3 in South America, 34 in Europe, and 1 in Australia.

    So, here’s a closer look at my European relatives. 1 from Ireland, 1 from the Isle of Man, 4 from Scotland, 23 from England, 1 from Switzerland, 1 from the Netherlands, and 3 from France.

    Now let’s look at those from the Caribbean, 1 from the Bahamas, 1 from Bermuda, 1 from the Dominican Republic, 1 from Barbados, 4 from Dominica, 5 from Anguilla, 1 from Puerto Rico, 1 from the British Virgin Islands, and 25 from the US Virgin Islands.

    Now let’s take a look at my father’s map, 10 in Canada, 1 in Central America, 1 in South America, 40 in the Caribbean, 24 in Europe, 2 in Australia, and 1 in Japan.

    Let’s zoom in on his Caribbean relatives, 1 in the Bahamas, 1 in the Dominican Republic, 1 in Trinidad and Tobago, 1 in Martinique, 3 in St. Lucia, 1 in Guadeloupe, 2 in Saint-Barthélemy, 3 in Sint Maarten, 1 in Puerto Rico, and 26 in the US Virgin Islands.

    Another aspect of 23andme that makes it much better than Ancestry is the Advanced DNA Comparison to several other DNA relatives to see what DNA segments we have in common, Ancestry doesn’t have a similar feature.

    The only issue I have with 23andme is that it doesn’t have a good family tree, there is a family tree option but it is very limited, I can’t do much with it because of all the intermarrying within my family and there is no way to indicate that in 23’s current tree. So, I will usually look at relatives on 23 and then go to Ancestry to try to place them in my tree over there.

    In conclusion test with both if you can. With those two tests, you can upload to the other Genealogical sites and cover all your bases. You will no doubt run into some of the same matches but you might be surprised with some new ones who are not on the major sites.

    J’ai reçu la teinte 09 Extra Tan et j’en suis tombée amoureuse. Elle correspond parfaitement à mon teint et offre une couverture légère pour un fini naturel.

    L’emballage est très hygiénique, au lieu d’un tube, vous avez une pompe qui vous permet de prélever la quantité de produit dont vous avez besoin sans avoir à toucher toute la teinte. Cette pompe rend l’application facile, une pompe ou deux sur votre pinceau ou éponge et vous êtes prête à partir.

    J’ai commencé mon application au centre de mon visage et j’ai progressé vers l’extérieur.

    L’un des aspects que je préfère dans cette teinte est qu’elle est sans parfum. Je ne suis pas une adepte des parfums dans mes produits pour le visage, je n’en vois pas l’intérêt et je souhaite que davantage de marques cessent d’en ajouter.

    New Martini Fiero

    J’ai eu la chance d’être choisie pour essayer le Martini Fiero et le Martini Vibrante sans alcool ; un grand merci à Martini et Trnd pour m’avoir offert cette opportunité.

    Malheureusement pour moi, ils contiennent tous deux de l’orange comme ingrédient et comme je suis hautement allergique, je n’ai pas pu tester les boissons. Pas de problème, mon mari et ma belle-famille n’ont pas de telles limitations.

    L’abus d’alcool est dangereux pour la santé, à consommer avec modération.

    Un mot d’avertissement supplémentaire pour ceux qui sont sensibles aux sulfites, vous pourriez vouloir passer sur celui-ci.

    Idéalement, le Fiero Martini devrait être accompagné de tonic, mais comme nous n’en avions pas, mon mari l’a versé sur des glaçons.

    Lorsqu’on lui a demandé quel était le goût du Martini, mon mari a répondu qu’il était un peu amer et qu’il pouvait sentir le zeste d’orange assez fortement.

    Même s’il n’est pas un grand fan de Martini, mon mari a dit qu’il avait vraiment apprécié la Fiero.

    La Vibrante, contrairement à la Fiero, n’a pas un goût aussi amer, elle est plutôt considérée comme douce mais pas trop. Elle se situe dans la ligne de démarcation et offre un goût de martini avec un mélange de grenadine.
    Elle aussi devrait être associée à un Tonic.

    Mon paquet de Martini contenait également deux antipasti d’Italians Do It Better, auxquels je n’étais heureusement pas allergique et que j’ai pu goûter. Je n’ai pas eu l’audace d’essayer l’antipasti à la menthe, j’ai donc essayé la crème de poivrons et d’aubergines.

    J’ai vraiment apprécié cet antipasti, je vais être honnête et dire que je n’en avais jamais goûté avant, donc je ne savais pas à quoi m’attendre et l’aubergine n’est pas quelque chose que je mange volontiers, mais j’ai été très satisfait du goût. L’aubergine n’est pas quelque chose que je mange volontiers, mais j’ai été très satisfaite du goût. Ce n’était pas trop fort ou trop puissant, mais plutôt une saveur délicate qui se marie bien avec les apéritifs.

    Ma belle-mère a essayé la crème d’aubergines et de menthe et n’a pas du tout apprécié la saveur.

    Alors que tout n’est pas encore complètement revenu à la normale, j’ai vraiment apprécié de pouvoir partager mes découvertes avec ma famille grâce à Martini, Italians Do It Better et Trnd.

    Avec l’arrivée de l’été, j’ai essayé de trouver un nouveau maillot de bain car l’ancien est trop petit, et le mois dernier j’ai essayé d’acheter chez Shein avec des résultats désastreux que vous pouvez lire ici.

    Je me suis dit que j’aurais de meilleurs résultats avec une entreprise locale et c’est le cas !

    J’achète souvent chez Kiabi, alors je me suis aventurée sur leur site une fois de plus et j’ai trouvé de très jolis maillots de bain. Depuis le désastre qu’a été Shein, j’ai fait quelques recherches sur Google et j’ai découvert que beaucoup de femmes obtiennent des maillots de bain de la mauvaise taille parce qu’elles achètent le haut et le bas ensemble alors qu’elles ont besoin de tailles différentes pour le haut et le bas.

    Je n’avais jamais pensé à acheter mon maillot de bain en pièces détachées, mais j’ai décidé de tenter le coup.

    J’ai regardé les nouveaux maillots de bain et acheté des pièces séparées pour très peu, il y avait une vente en cours et j’ai acheté deux hauts, un bas et un nouveau maillot de bain pour ma fille, le tout pour 21,55€.

    J’ai acheté les deux hauts en taille Large, ce qui, d’après le guide des tailles, devrait convenir à une poitrine dont la partie la plus pleine mesure 96 cm, ce qui est une bonne nouvelle puisque ma poitrine mesure 96 cm dans sa partie la plus pleine.

    Shorty de bain imprimé – bleu lagon

    J’ai acheté le bas en taille Medium, d’après le tableau des tailles, cela équivaut à la taille 38 des vêtements français, qui est la taille que je porte actuellement.

    Voici le maillot de bain que j’ai acheté pour ma fille:

    J’ai acheté ce maillot de bain en taille 18 mois.

    Vérification de la forme

    J’aime vraiment la coupe du haut triangle, il me va très bien et je n’ai pas de débordement, ce qui est important pour moi. Par contre, je ne suis pas fan du bandeau, il me semble un tout petit peu trop grand, peut-être que je ne suis pas habituée à ce style de maillot.

    Le bas est correct, il semble un peu grand mais rien qui ne m’inquiète.

    Le maillot de bain de ma fille est si mignon, même si j’ai toujours insisté sur le fait que je n’achèterais jamais de maillot de bain deux pièces si j’avais une fille. Je ne suis tout simplement pas fan de ces maillots de bain trop révélateurs pour les tout-petits et les petites filles. Je pense qu’une fois qu’une fille devient une jeune femme, elle peut choisir ce qu’elle veut.

    Le haut s’adapte parfaitement tandis que le bas est juste un peu grand sur elle, il sera sans doute très bien une fois qu’il passera sur une couche de bain.

    Voilà, je pense que je vais continuer à acheter des maillots de bain et des vêtements auprès d’entreprises locales.

    J’ai vu les publicités sur Facebook et Instagram, non vous ne les avez pas vues non plus. Je les regardais souvent et je me disais que ce ne serait peut-être pas aussi mauvais que les critiques que j’avais vues, mais je ne voulais pas prendre le risque jusqu’à ce que je demande des suggestions pour trouver des maillots de bain.

    Je n’ai pas acheté de maillots de bain chez eux, je ne voulais vraiment pas acheter des maillots qui ne m’allaient pas ou qui ne ressemblaient pas à ce qui était annoncé. J’ai également entendu dire qu’ils s’abîmaient, mais je commençais à désespérer car je ne trouvais rien d’attrayant et dans mon budget qui soit disponible localement.

    J’ai donc décidé de tenter ma chance.

    J’ai commandé deux maillots de bain, une chaussure et un ensemble sac à dos.

    J’ai donné à mon mari la possibilité de choisir un des maillots de bain et il a choisi celui-ci :

    Maintenant, voyons les vrais maillots de bain…

    Le Rouge :

    J’ai pris la taille Medium parce que certaines personnes disaient que la petite taille était minuscule, alors je me suis dit que c’était mieux de prendre la taille supérieure. Je ne suis pas sûre de ce que j’attendais de cette combinaison, mais quoi que ce soit, ce n’est pas le cas. Non seulement le haut est bien trop petit, mais le tissu donne l’impression de ne pas avoir été conçu pour la natation. C’est un peu comme un maillot fait pour prendre le soleil. Quelle que soit la raison pour laquelle il a été conçu, je ne peux pas le porter du tout. Le bas ne pose aucun problème, mais le haut ne quittera jamais ma maison. Si j’enlève le petit nœud au milieu, c’est beaucoup mieux, mais ce n’est toujours pas idéal. J’aurais tellement peur de sauter partout si je devais me pencher à tout moment ou sauter à un moment donné.

    Le Noir :

    J’avais de meilleurs espoirs pour cette combinaison, je l’ai achetée en Medium car c’est la taille qui correspondait à mes mensurations. Je pensais qu’il m’irait même si le rouge ne l’était pas et qu’il serait flatteur et cacherait mon ventre de maman mais hélas, il a un long torse et les bonnets ne sont pas adaptés aux gros seins. J’ai vérifié les bonnets plusieurs fois, mais d’une manière ou d’une autre, ils n’étaient pas de la bonne taille et je suis assez triste à ce sujet, je ne vais pas mentir. Je veux profiter de l’été et aller à la piscine, mais sans un maillot qui me va vraiment, comment faire ?

    Il n’y a malheureusement pas de retour possible, alors je me retrouve avec deux maillots de bain qui ne me vont pas du tout.

    J’ai eu un peu plus de chance avec la chaussure et le sac :

    Chaussure :

    Je les ai achetées en EU 37, soit la taille US 6.5.

    Elles sont super confortables et mignonnes en vrai ! Je suis vraiment impressionnée et je pense que je pourrais acheter des chaussures de Shein à nouveau. Le matériau est assez doux et je n’ai eu aucun problème à porter les chaussures pendant longtemps.

    Regardez aussi l’arrière de la chaussure ! Comme c’est mignon ! Je ne l’ai remarqué que par accident.

    Sac à dos :

    Certains commentaires donnaient l’impression que le sac à dos serait minuscule, mais je trouve qu’il est d’une taille suffisante pour mes besoins et même plus. Le seul problème que j’ai avec eux, c’est qu’ils n’ont pas de séparateurs à l’intérieur. Toutes mes affaires s’entassent les unes sur les autres.

    Je vais devoir utiliser les sacs et les chaussures pendant plus longtemps pour faire le point plus tard.

    Je suppose que ma prochaine étape est d’essayer de voir si je peux trouver un maillot de bain localement. De préférence un maillot séparé, car mon expérience ci-dessus m’a montré que si mon bas est un moyen, mon haut est un grand.

    Si je trouve un costume, je m’assurerai de l’inclure dans ma mise à jour.

    It’s been a month since I began using the Nicky Cosmetics shampoo and masque. I did mention that I would update if there have been any changes to my hair and so far there has been none. My hair is actually growing really well and I have reduced my wash routine a bit. Instead of using a conditioner after shampooing I now only use the masque and after rinsing out the masque I skip the leave-in and go straight for a curl-enhancing mousse followed by gel.

    I am currently using:

    Nick Cosmetics Argan oil Shampoo and mask

    Design Essentials Curl Enhancing Mousse

    This is actually a new product for me, I’ve been hearing a lot about how good a mousse is for a wash and go I decided to try one out. I originally wanted to try The Doux Mousse Def Texture Foam but I could not find it to buy so I asked some other naturals and they suggested Design Essentials.

    I wasn’t very impressed at first because I didn’t use the proper technique. I applied the foam all over my hair and raked through it without separating it into sections which lead to a lot of my hair clumping together in big pieces. It was not a good look and I was sure the product was to blame. I watched a few videos and learned that I should have applied the mousse to smaller sections one at a time. Since then I’ve had much better success at using the mousse for wash and go.

    This isn’t the first time I’ve used the Curl Activator Gel from Activilong but it is the first time I’ve used it with a mousse.

    Depending on my mood I will omit the gel and use just the mousse but I prefer the extra definition using the gel gives me.

    This was also my first time doing finger coils. It’s far from being perfect but I really liked how it came out. It took a long time to do though!

    I’m unsure if I will do this every wash day, if anything I might save it for when I’m feeling especially attractive or some fancy event.

    I also bought the Activilong Acticurl Leave in when I bought the gel, occasionally I will use it before applying my mousse and gel, leave-in isn’t really necessary in my routine and it is a hard habit to break. I’m unsure if I will buy anymore when this bottle is empty.

    Summer months are approaching and I’m going to have to find some hairstyles that take my hair off my neck because the hot sun and lose curls are not a combination I’m looking forward to experiencing.

    Ah Influenster, you have done it again…

    On March 20, I was chosen to take part in the Sun Voxbox, I was supposed to receive 3 tablets to clean my dishwasher. I was really excited because this was my first non-beauty Voxbox, we have a small dishwasher and we could have used those tablets but unfortunately just like my OPI Rainbow Voxbox last year it never showed up.

    While I was waiting to see if the Voxbox would ever show up I received not one but two surveys, I’m really grateful to receive surveys but what good is getting into the campaign if I never receive the items?

    I have no idea who they shipped with this time but if by some chance someone sees this post, use La Poste, I’ve never had any problems receiving my Voxboxes when they were shipped with them.

    I’m still super interested in the product so I think I will buy it myself to test.

    Cy’an, used for saying can’t.

    Deh, this is one of the most important words to know in Crucian because we use it all the time. It is how we say The. And if you say deh deh it means there, except in the negative form on specific occasions. To use deh deh in the negative form sometimes you have to omit one deh. Deh is also used in between sentences for reasons I have not understood yet. It is such a complex word and you really need to understand it to be able to use it effectively.

    Deh dawg dem deh deh.

    The dogs are there.

    Me’en ova deh.

    I’m not over there.

    Me’en deh deh.

    I’m not there.

    Me’en deh yah.

    I’m not here.

    Dehman, basically meaning The man but it can also be used as hey, we use this saying a lot in frustration and surprise.

    Aye dehman! Dehman!

    Aye dehman! yuh see dat deh!

    Hey! Did you see that?

    Mehson, the literal translation would be my son, it’s used pretty similarly to dehman.

    Mehson, me’en no wah wrong wid she!
